CCAQ Pan-Celtic Awards Night

Over 130 people attended the Pan-Celtic Dinner and Awards night at the QIA Shamrock Room on Wednesday Night, 5th April 2006, at which six Queenslanders were awarded Celtic Honours by the Queensland Branch of the Celtic Council of Australia.

Three DUINE URRMARCH with the right of usafe of the Post Nominals of D.Urr, were awarded. Dr. John Mackenzie-Smith, a member of our Society received his award for some 20 years, recording, preserving and publishing the records and contributions of Scots to Moreton Bay pre 1859. Mrs Margaret Paterson, a friend of our Society, received her award for her great contribution to Highland Dancing, the Scottish community and the State of Queensland. Also awarded a D.Urr, was Mr. William Thomas for services to the Welsh community and the general Queensland community.

Three awards of DUINE UASAL - D.Ua, were awarded for services to Celtic communities:- Mrs Mavis Williams for services to the Irish & Piping communities, Mrs Gwenlliam O'Neill, for services to the Welsh community and Mrs Lilliam Smith, for services to the Manx community.

This brings to 25, the number of Queenslanders who have been awarded Celtic Honours over the past twenty-five years.

The great entertainment supplied by the Celtic Connection Choir, Irish & Highland Dancer, Craig Johnston (who came 3rd in the World titles in Scotland), ensured a most enjoyable night.
